Tragic News, Everyone

I regret to inform you that the Brick used to prop open the back service door at Northern Brewer St. Paul passed away earlier this week.

Many of you knew Brick, and what a loyal employee he was for so many years. Brick had worked here longer than most of us, and truly loved his job. He loved being at the store whether is was for transfer day, or helping customers with big orders get to their cars out back, or sitting outside 24/7 in all kinds of weather. We will all have fond memories of the times when, while propping open the door, he would get himself kicked out the way by one employee as another, unsuspecting employee was taking out the trash or recycling. Brick was that sort of brick.

Brick died the way he lived: in the line of duty. While gallantly on its way to prop open the door, he was suddenly cleaved in two, releasing a crack of thunder followed by the parting of the heavens and the trumpeting of far-off angels.

Brick was preceded in death by Bungee Cord. He is survived by Extra Retaining Wall Block and Random Refuse.

Memorial services will be held at 1150 Grand Ave, St. Paul, where Brick will be laid to rest in a frame and posthumously awarded Northern Brewer's highest civilian honor, "Employee of the Decade."

Brick was rich in spirit, but not rich at the bank, having never received a paycheck in all his years of service. Therefore a memorial fund has been established in an envelope on the back room cork board at the Grand Avenue store so that we may purchase an appropriate frame for his send-off.

A scholarship fund is also in the works.

"No man ever wetted clay and then left it, as if there would be bricks by chance and fortune." - Plutarch
