Best Place to Have a Beer

I remember the first time someone explained the concept of a "beer shower" to me. I was like, "Wait, you can drink beer in the shower??!" And, it turns out, you can. And it's awesome.

At the end of a long hard day of athletic activity, your muscles sore and stiffening, your sweat caked on to you in gritty salt crystals, you don't want to just relax, you want to mega-relax. Sweet beer, the perfect counterpoint to sun and running, moderately hydrating, muscle relaxant, a warm soft bed for your brain. And then showering, also muscle relaxant, warm, cleansing, excellent time to practice yodeling. Both a fitting end to the day; together they are much more than either could be alone.

But I've heard a lot of folks talk about beer on camping trips. Watching the sun set with a pint, pulling a bottle of beer out of a cold stream, homebrew far away from home. That's pretty good, too. I am open to suggestions on the best time/place to drink a homebrew. If your suggestion is awesome enough, I will give it a try and blog about my experiences. Cheers!

  3. Hot bath, candles burning. Some people would go with a nice glass of wine. I prefer one of my husbands awesome homebrews. Something about the combination of a hot bath and a cold beer is extremely relaxing.

  6. Yeah, Baseball Game is gonna be a front runner there for me. I still remember the first time I had a beer at a baseball game. And I separately remember the first time I had a beer at Wrigley Field.

  8. My favorite brews have been during:
On a coastal cliff after long hike.
On the porch in early winter.
    2AM grinding away on projects.
    While brewing!

  9. To get me in the mood for running. Sometimes I have to lower my inhibitions to get me out the door to run in Montana "spring" weather. Also, pulled out of a packbox that just got unloaded off a mule after a 20-mile backcountry trail day ain't too bad either.

  10. I am notorious for hiking with beer in my pack, and I have always enjoyed a cold beer (sometimes multiple) at the summit. The Trick is, to utilize the wide mouth opening in the camelback bladder to fill with ice, water, and beer (bottles or cans). My highlight was sharing bottles of my IPA at the summit of Mt, St Helens with friends during the twenty year anniversary of the eruption.

  11. Best beer ever:
Sunset in the Canyonlands. Sitting 1000' above the Green River as the landscape exploded into color.

  12. Standing in the center of Bourbon St. (or Chartres) New Orleans at 8 AM, Abita Turbodog in a 32 oz. to-go cup, neck heavy with cheap beads.

Third sample of barleywine from secondary fermenter.
Whilst the wife thinks I'm doing laundry.
    Me. For the win.

  14. It looks beer and hiking is the frontrunner, so I hereby promise to go hiking, drink some homebrew, and blog about it with some pictures.

that said, if I could go back in time; I would love to have another brew with my father...

Ive also been a shower drinker for a number of years. its damn relaxing. also drinking beer and sports is awesome. nothing like a nice cold IPA just before you go back out to catch some more waves.

  18. (Best thread ever, btw. . .)
My freshman year in college, all us 4th Floor Freaks would turn on the showers in the community bathroom to HOT. Then we'd wheel the cooler in there and sit on some lawn chairs for a couple hours, drinkin' brewskies sauna style. I admit that the behavior was not in line with water conservation, but then again freshman year is not a time for responsibility. Of course, I will also admit that Keystone light is nowhere near the quality of my worst batch of homebrew, but we all know that.

  19. Certainly drinking beer in places you shouldn't be in college ranks right up there for some reason. This thread has me looking forward to all of the long bike rides(after) , cookouts (during), Kan-Jam (during) and walking around the yard with a beer after work that we have coming up with summer approaching.

  21. One of my favorite places to drink homebrew is in the hottub in November or December. Sounds like this would be similar to a homebrew in a hot shower but with less activity required.

  22. Yeah, homebrew in the hot tub, that is some serious relaxing. You don't even have to support your own weight by standing.

  23. Kids in bed. House is quiet. I'm on the couch relaxing with a cold one. If it's a dark cold winter night it's probably a porter. If it's a warm summer night, it's probably a wheat beer. Sanity in a glass.
